Check in and inspect your cars first, then open the heat chart and build it. Heat Board creates a lane-balanced chart: every car runs in every lane exactly once, and the app spreads out opponents so cars meet different rivals across their heats. That keeps lane differences from deciding the race.

Set your lane count (3 to 6) before building. Only cars that passed inspection are placed in the chart.

Rebalance rebuilds the heats that have not run yet after the field changes, for example when a car is withdrawn or a late car is added. Heats already run and their times are kept. The remaining heats are rearranged so every car still gets one run per lane, as fairly as the remaining schedule allows.

Open the car from check-in or the standings and mark it as withdrawn, then tap Rebalance when prompted. Its upcoming runs are removed and the other cars' remaining heats are adjusted. If it can be repaired and re-inspected, you can bring it back in and rebalance again.

Use whatever your track has:

• Tap finish order if you judge by eye or with a simple finish line. Tap the lanes in the order the cars cross. This works with points scoring.
• Timer times if your track has an electronic timer. Type each lane's time in seconds with 3 to 4 decimals, for example 2.8471.

A car that does not finish counts as 9.999 s, so it ranks last in that heat without breaking the average.

In points mode each heat awards points by finish place, and a car's total across all its heats sets its rank. In time mode cars rank by their average time over all lanes, lowest first. You can switch the standings view between each den (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, Arrow of Light, Siblings, Adults) and the overall field.

When cars are tied for a placing, Heat Board offers a run-off. It creates extra heats for just the tied cars, and the run-off result breaks the tie in the standings. The original race results are not changed.

For design awards you can tap votes directly or photograph a paper ballot. The app reads the car numbers using Apple's on-device text recognition, shows you what it found so you can confirm it, and then discards the photo. Nothing is uploaded.

• Ask voters to write car numbers large and clearly, one per box.
• Lay the ballot flat in good, even light and avoid shadows from your phone.
• Fill the frame with the ballot and hold steady until it is sharp.
• Dark pen or marker on white paper reads best.
• Always check the numbers it found before confirming.

From the results area, create certificates or the results sheet. Heat Board makes a PDF and opens the iOS share sheet, where you can choose Print for an AirPrint printer, save to Files, AirDrop it to a laptop, or send it however you like. For a single certificate you can also tap "Save image to Photos".

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. If they do not show up:

• Open iOS Settings, then Notifications, then Heat Board, and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
• Check that a Focus mode or Do Not Disturb is not silencing them.
• Confirm the reminder is turned on for that checklist phase and its time is still in the future.

When race day is done, archive the derby to move it into the hall of fame, where you can look back at past winners and results. Then start a fresh derby for next season. The app ships with a 24-car sample derby for practice; you can bring it back at any time with "Reload the sample derby", which replaces the current derby data.

Everything stays on your device in the app's private storage. There is no account and no server, so we cannot restore data for you. To keep a safety copy, include the device in your regular iCloud Backup or computer backup. Deleting the app removes its data. See the privacy policy for details.

Yes. Heat Board runs on iPhone and iPad, in portrait and landscape. An iPad in landscape at the finish line gives the live heat screen plenty of room for 6 lanes, and an iPhone works well at the check-in and inspection table.
